Facial Surgery

Even the smallest changes in the face can be noticeable, because our eyes are naturally drawn to symmetry and balance.

Facial surgery can enhance appearance, restore function, or often do both. But harmony is key — focusing on one feature in isolation may not always create the most natural result.

My Approach

Your safety and wellbeing are always my first priority. Together, we will:

  • Review your medical history and optimise your health (e.g. managing high blood pressure, which can increase bleeding risks after surgery)

  • Discuss lifestyle factors (such as smoking, alcohol, and medications) that affect healing

  • Carry out a detailed physical examination and plan surgery together based on your goals

The Layers of the Face

Ageing affects the face at multiple levels, each contributing in different ways:

  • Skin – pigmentation changes, reduced elasticity, sagging

  • Muscle – wrinkles and lines from repeated movement

  • Fat – bulging (eye bags), volume loss, hollowing, jowls

  • Bone – gradual structural changes that reduce support and balance (e.g. brow descent)

Form

Some people are born with natural differences in facial structure that don’t align with current aesthetic preferences:

  • Skin – no upper eyelid crease (monolid), or multiple creases

  • Muscle – extra bulk in the eyelid, or absence of dimples

  • Fat – puffiness in the eyelid, fullness under the chin

  • Bone – a chin or nose that projects too much or too little

Function

Facial structures can also affect day-to-day function:

  • Eyes – drooping lids (ptosis) or excess skin (dermatochalasis) can obstruct vision

  • Ears – prominent ears may affect confidence, especially in children

  • Nose – structural problems can cause blocked breathing

  • Lips – previous cleft lip repair may leave a “whistle” deformity

Treatment Options

Depending on your needs, surgery may include:

  • Rejuvenation – face and neck lift, facial fat grafting, under chin liposuction

  • Eyes and brows – upper (including Asian eyelid) or lower eyelid surgery, brow lift, drooping lid

  • Nose and ears – rhinoplasty (cosmetic or functional), ear reshaping

  • Skin – microneedling and nanofat grafting for skin quality

  • Other – dimple creation, chin augmentation (occasionally with an implant)

Top 5 Questions I’m Asked

1. Is this covered by insurance or Medisave?

This depends on your insurance plan and whether the surgery is considered functional or cosmetic. My team can assist with this process.

2. What will the scars look like?

Scars are placed carefully to be as discreet as possible. My aim is always to achieve natural-looking results.

3. Do you do XYZ technique?

There are many techniques you may read about online. While I’m familiar with them, my philosophy is to preserve your natural tissues whenever possible. That’s why I often use preservation approaches — such as closed rhinoplasty or minimal-incision eyelid surgery — which deliver natural results, reduce risks, and allow faster recovery.

4. Can I treat more than one area at the same time?

Yes. In fact, combining procedures can often provide the most balanced results — for example, a facelift with eyelid surgery and fat grafting.

5. Do you offer facial implants?

In general, I prefer not to use implants, as they carry long-term risks such as shifting or infection. The exception is the chin, where implants can sometimes achieve a more natural outcome than fat alone.

My Research & Publications
Alongside my clinical practice, I’ve published internationally on fat grafting (Journal of Cutaneous and Aesthetic Surgery, 2016). I also received the bronze medal for my rhinoplasty technique at the ISAPS meeting in Singapore (2025). My goal is to ensure that patients benefit from the most up-to-date techniques and knowledge.
