Asian
Blepharoplasty

My Approach

Double eyelid surgery, or Asian blepharoplasty, is one of the most frequently requested procedures among Asian patients. Yet, no two eyes are ever the same. My approach is based on respecting individual anatomy rather than aiming for a single “ideal” crease or appearance.

Every eyelid carries subtle differences in muscle thickness, fat distribution, and skin elasticity. Understanding these nuances is key to creating results that are balanced, expressive, and natural - eyes that look refreshed, not operated upon.

Planning & Technique

Recovery & Expectations

In Asian eyelid surgery, the goal is not to “Westernise” the eye but to define the crease position in a way that complements each person’s unique features.

I use a hybrid approach that combines the strengths of both incisional and purely non-incisional (suture-type) methods - in keeping with my preservation philosophy. This minimises soft-tissue disruption while maintaining a dynamic, natural fold. The fixation is made to the pre-tarsal membrane, avoiding the stiffness that can occur with other techniques (skin-only, aponenurosis, tarsus).

To ensure satisfaction, patients are guided through the planning process and can choose their preferred crease height before surgery, with my input on what best suits their anatomy and goals.

Most patients can return to light activities after several days. Mild swelling and bruising typically resolve within a week. Sutures are removed at about 5–7 days.

Final results become apparent as swelling subsides over the next few weeks, revealing a defined yet soft contour that maintains the natural Asian eyelid character.

Complementary Procedures

For full facial rejuvenation, Asian eyelid surgery can be combined with nanofat to improve skin quality or address fine wrinkles around the eyes, or with a face and neck lift for more global improvement of the midface and brow region.

Ptosis correction - which is very common among Asian patients, and typically mild and non-medical - can also be addressed at the same time as Asian blepharoplasty to restore eyelid height and symmetry.

In selected cases, a medial epicanthoplasty may be considered to refine the inner corner of the eye. However, this is usually unnecessary if the blepharoplasty is properly designed - as this area has a higher risk of visible scarring, it is best avoided unless there is a clear functional or aesthetic indication.

Post-operative care extends beyond routine reviews - it is an integral part of Dr Ng’s surgical philosophy. Through Doctor Stitch, an aftercare service founded to ensure seamless continuity and comfort, every patient is followed up personally by Dr Ng. Whether at home or in clinic, he provides attentive, discreet, and consistent care throughout the recovery journey.
