Breast Cosmetic Surgery

Model in Swimwear

Breast cosmetic surgery encompasses reshaping, resizing and repositioning the breasts in a way that balances form, function and personal identity, guided by anatomical principles and individual goals. While many women come in with an idea of what they want, sometimes the underlying issue turns out to be different.

A woman’s breasts are an intimate and personal part of her identity. Changes in their shape or size can affect not only confidence, but also day-to-day comfort. My role is not just to help you achieve the result you’re looking for, but also to guide you in understanding what’s happening - and how we can best address it together.

My Approach

Your safety and wellbeing are always my first priority. Together, we will:

  • Review your personal and family history of breast disease

  • Ensure your screening mammogram is up to date, if needed

  • Discuss lifestyle factors (such as smoking, alcohol, and medications) that may affect healing

  • Carry out a careful breast examination before deciding together on the best plan forward that aligns with your goals and expectations

Form

Breasts can sometimes feel out of proportion with the rest of the body:

  • Larger, heavier breasts - may cause neck or back pain and make exercise or swimming uncomfortable

  • Smaller breasts - may lead to self-consciousness, especially with clothing or intimacy

  • Changes over time - pregnancy, breastfeeding, or weight shifts may cause drooping or volume loss

  • Asymmetry - may be present from birth or occur after breast cancer treatment

Treatment options include:

Sunbathing

Some women develop problems after implants, such as hardness, distortion, pain, or shifting of the implant (malposition). This is often due to a condition called capsular contracture. Rarely, a condition called Breast Implant–Associated Anaplastic Large Cell Lymphoma (BIA-ALCL) can occur, so any unexplained swelling after implants should always be checked.

Treatment options may involve:

Post-operative care extends beyond routine reviews - it is an integral part of Dr Ng’s surgical philosophy. Through Doctor Stitch, an aftercare service founded to ensure seamless continuity and comfort, every patient is followed up personally by Dr Ng. Whether at home or in clinic, he provides attentive, discreet, and consistent care throughout the recovery journey.

Frequently Asked Questions

1. Is this covered by insurance or Medisave?

  • Augmentation (implants for cosmetic reasons): not covered

  • Reduction or uplift: in some cases, part of the procedure may be covered. My team can assist with this process.

2. What will the scars look like?

For augmentation, the scar is usually hidden under the breast. For reduction or uplift, the scars may be lollipop- or anchor-shaped. While scar quality varies with skin type and healing, most fade over 6 to 12 months.

3. Can I still breastfeed after surgery?

Most women are able to breastfeed after cosmetic breast surgery. However, because the nipple area is repositioned during surgery, temporary changes in sensation may occur. These usually improve within weeks to months, and only rarely are permanent.

4. Do you use drains?

I generally avoid drains to make recovery easier and allow you to go home sooner. If needed, I will use them based on clinical judgement.

5. How long before my breast shape settles?

Breasts may look high at first, but they will gradually soften and settle into their final position over about 6 to 12 months.

6. How do I choose between augmentation, reduction or uplift?
Choosing procedures depends on your anatomy, symptoms and goals. Augmentation focuses on volume, reduction on symptomatic burden, and uplift on shape/position. Often, a combination is considered based on proportions and long-term balance.

7. What should I know about implants vs fat grafting?
Implants provide reliable volume, whereas fat grafting uses your own tissue and can refine contour subtly. Each has trade-offs in durability, donor-site considerations and long-term changes, so these are discussed in a personalised planning conversation before surgery.
